lit circles 5

Today, my group completed the fifth section of the book, the Curious Incident of the Dog in the nighttime. Danny was the scribe as we discussed this section. I posed the question, "Why would Christopher's dad tell him the code to his cash card? He knew that one day he would have to tell Christopher that his mom was alive and he should have thought that Christopher might react badly and steal the cash card? Alexa responded saying that he might have done it just in case of an emergency, but we all agreed that he should have foresaw what was going to happen. Alexa and I shared the same question "Why did the police man and the ticket-lady let Christopher on the train? Danny thought that any kid could get on a train as long as they payed. As I was pondering his response, I thought that there was now way he should've been allowed on the train. It says that the ticket-lady and the police officer were both aware that Christopher had been staring into space for 2 and a half hours. This should already raise a red flag. Danny asked the question "How would Christopher's mother react if Christopher showed up at her front door?" At first, I thought she would be happy, but then I thought about Mr. Shears. From what I know about him, I feel he would react badly to Christopher and want him out of the house immediately. I feel that this could lead to Mr. Shears and Christopher's mom possibly breaking up and Christopher's parents getting back together.

lit circles 4

Today in class, we read the fourth section of our book. I was the scribe today and many great ideas came up in our discussion. Danny first posed the question "Why did Christopher's dad hide the letters and resort to something as drastic as saying Christopher's mom was dead?" Alexa responded saying that she thinks Christopher would stop bothering hid dad about him mome if she thought she was dead. I added that this had worked up until Christopher read the letters. He had rarely questioned his dad about his mother because he thought she had a heart attack. We all agreed that this approach could have been better planned so that it did not break Christopher's heart once he found out. Danny also added that Christophers dad had put himseld in a bad predicament because now Christopher dislikes his dad.

Literary Circles 3

This week, we read the third section of the Curious Incident of the Dog in the nighttime. Alexa was not in class the day we discussed it so it was just Danny and I. At first, Danny brought up the question "Why is Christopher not sad about his mom's death?" I answered that this was an autistic trait. When I was researching the book online, I read that some traits of autism are not reacting to emotions that most people feel. I then posed the question "Why is Mrs. Alexander insisting that Christopher doesnt tell his father that she was the source behind his knowledge?" This makes me think that Mrs. Alexander is hiding something although I cannot grasp what it is yet.

Literary Circles part 2

This week, I read the second part of the Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-time. As my group and I were discussing it in class, I brought up the idea that maybe Mrs. Boone and Mr. Shears are together. When Christopher was talking to Mrs. Alexander, Mrs. Alexander was shocked to find out that Mrs. Boone was dead. This makes me think that Mrs. Boone is still alive, bu Mr. Boone doesn't want Christopher to feel sad about it. When Mrs. Alexander told Christopher that Mrs. Boone and Mr. Shears were having an affair, before Mr. and Mrs. Shears divorced, this leads me to the conclusion that Mrs. Boone and Mr. Shears are together. That is what my group talked about in class today.

3/8/2010- first section of book

3/8/10
The Curious incident of the dog in the night-time

Today, the group discussed the first thirty pages of our book. I was the scribe. The first idea presented was by Alexa saying that she thought Christopher was autistic. Danny and I agreed. Alexa then read her question "Why isn't Christopher allowed to visit his mom in the hospital?" Danny said that her mom might not be dead and that Mr. Boone might be having an affiar with Mrs. Shears. Danny and Alexa think that Mrs. Shears killed Wellington to get Christopher in jail and have a good relationship with Mr. Boone. They think that Mrs. Shears would not want to have an autistic son. I then read my quote about Christopher liking dogs. From that quote, the group conveyed that Christopher is a very literal and straightforward person. The fact that he likes math and science prove this point because math and science have an exact approach compared to English where you have to think outside the box and read proper novels.

Getting my book

Today in class, I recieved my book, the curious incident of the dog in the night-time. I suggested that my group go on a rotating schedule of who should be the scribe. Alexa volunteered to go first and I volunteered second and that left Danny with the third slot. Next, I suggested that we read about thirty pages each time we meet. We used my idea, but Alexa suggested that we go about thirty pages until we get to a good stopping point. After this, I wrote down all of my groups email addresses and left class.
